I have lived and worked in Dayton my whole life. I love this city and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. Old North Dayton has become more familiar with me over the past few years. It's hard to pass up a Dalton burger from Charlie's, I tell anybody that will listen about the printmaking co-op,, and who doesn’t love the Amber Rose. Through my work now in construction, I deal a lot with the business and people around Dayton while on job sites, and have really seen a lot of positive growth for a city and it's people that deserve it.
When coming up with the mural, I felt like mental wellness, and suicide prevention were difficult to conceptalize into the artwork. Difficult because of the seriousness of the subject. I wanted to emphasize an aspect of mental health that I felt was important, community. Community is important because, when struggling with mental health, one can feel alone, and helpless. As a community connected to one another, we can help each other and show that we all complete each other, and it gets better.
